Navy enlistees typically have guaranteed job areas, in which they can apply for specific jobs within one year after boot camp.

NAVY Retake Policy

As an applicant to the US Navy, you may be allowed to retake the ASVAB if you do not get an AFQT score that qualifies you for enlistment, or when your previous results have expired. Those enlisted under the Delayed Entry Program or DEP are commonly not eligible for a retest, unless they are enlisted in the Navy’s DEP Enrichment Program. Under this program, high school graduates who have scored between 28 and 30 in the AFQT may be DEP-enlisted, and go through training for academic enhancement. Afterwards, they will retake the ASVAB, and if they get an AFQT score of 31 or higher, they will be called on to serve in the Navy.

In reality, this test will determine not only your acceptance into the military, but also what jobs you are assigned once accepted. More importantly, it can have a huge effect on your military income as the higher paying jobs go to the higher scoring recruits. All recruits should purchase a study guide and work through it thoroughly. Below is a link to the best study guide available.
